Bulletin #38: New S/L License Procedures
General Bulletin #38
New Surplus Line License
Application and Renewal Procedures
Effective July 19, 2012
Effective Thursday, July 19, 2012, all Illinois surplus line producer renewals
and applications will be handled through NIPR. Any paper renewals and applications
that were received, complete and approved by the Illinois Department of Insurance as
of today have been processed. All others will need to be processed through NIPR.
We do not expect this to be a difficult transition for Illinois surplus line
producers. Regular Illinois producer licenses are already applied for and renewed
in this manner. The only difference will be on the screen that lists license
classes and lines of authority (LOA) for which you are eligible. On this screen
you will select "Surplus Line Producer." The rest of the renewal or application
process will be very much the same as the process for your regular producer
license. Starting July 19th, visit www.nipr.com to apply for or renew an Illinois
surplus line producer license. The screens are generally user-friendly and
self-explanatory. The NIPR help desk is available to assist you. You can
contact them at (855) 674-6477 or customerservice@nipr.com if you have any
questions about the process.
NIPR forwards the information to the Illinois Department of Insurance which reviews
the application or renewal request and has the authority to approve or reject
it.
